A little more about us

Meet your art teachers:

Mrs. van Gaalen (Mrs.V)

Hi, I am really excited to be starting my 5th year at ISM.  I am originally from Australia and have been working internationally for about 10 years. Previous to ISM I was working at International schools in Shanghai and also in Korea.

I am a practicing Artist who loves painting, ceramics, photography and printmaking. I am now lucky to have a studio space at home where I can do even more Art. I love traveling with my family and have visited many places throughout Asia.

I believe that Art is a very important part of a child's development and I enjoy helping students learn and grow confident with their own individual art-making. I am always inspired by what our little friends are able to create, so I am looking forward to the year.

Please feel free to drop by at any time as our doors are always open.

Ms. Grauke

Welcome! I am thrilled to be joining ISM this year. I am in my tenth year of teaching art and love it. I am originally from San Antonio, Texas where I grew up. Then I attended the Maryland Institute College of Art where I earned my Bachelors of Fine Arts and went on to complete my Masters of Art in Teaching. I have taught in the United States, the United Arab Emirates, and Spain. I am looking forward to living and exploring the Philippines.

I enjoy traveling and seeing new places and people, reading a good book, and of course: making art. I like painting with watercolors and acrylics as well as creating collage and photography. My favorite medium is probably clay, but I love them all.

This year is going to be wonderful as we explore the many different types of art and a variety of materials. The arts are such an important part of your child's education and I am glad to be a part of his/her education.

If you have any questions or concerns, please contact me: graukek@ismanila.org or stop in for a visit.

Ms. Liz

Hello! My name is Liz Wendler and I teach Elementary School (ES) art.  I am originally from the the United States and this is my sixth year teaching art.   This is my first year at ISM and I am so excited to be here and have the opportunity to teach so many wonderful students.  Previous to this I was teaching art in Thailand for five years.

I have been making art for as long as I can remember and I love to continually learn new skills and build upon techniques that I already know.  I have a Bachelor of Science in Art Education from the University of Vermont.   In my spare time I enjoy making pottery and paintings, reading, travelling, learning new languages, going to art museums and galleries, and practicing yoga.

I believe that art making is an essential part of every child’s development and I am very fortunate to be able to share my love of art with so many different students everyday. I am looking forward to having a great year in art!

Please feel free to drop by the art room anytime you like - our doors are always open!
